The weather report for this weekend has me longing for summer. Lake Anne in Reston is one of my favorite places to spend a hot and humid summer Saturday morning. Just typing those words took the edge off the weather report.

Under the watchful eye of the statue of Reston’s founder, Robert E. Simon, the Reston Farmers Market features vendors from local farmers in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Aside from the produce, it’s a great place to run in to friends, enjoy a freshly baked scone and chat with the vendors. You might even meet a dog or two along your way (properly attired in their bandanas, of course).

We will survive with a frosty COVID-safe trip to the Giant this weekend. The Florida tomatoes and peppers will be an acceptable substitute until May brings the market back to life.
“Look at our farmers markets today, bursting with heritage breeds and heirloom varieties, foods that were once abundant when we were an agricultural nation, but that we have lost touch with. Bringing all these back helps us connect to our roots, our communities and helps us feed America the proper way.” – Jose Andres
