Boiler Up!

Today is David Rothenberg’s birthday. He would be the little guy in the middle in the photo above.

David is, most importantly, my nephew. A senior at Purdue University majoring in Software Engineering, David will graduate in May and begin a new job as an engineer for the US Navy. Needless to say, I am a very proud uncle. Aside from being incredibly intelligent, David has a heart of gold. He is one of the most sensitive, loving and caring people I know. He is proud of his family, his hometown and would do anything for a friend in need. They just don’t make men like David anymore. They should…

David is also one of the funniest guys I know. When he gets together with my daughters, the laughs don’t stop. Being the only boy among all girl cousins can be tough, but he always hung in there. Dancing at the Biergarten in Epcot, eating ice cream at Beaches and Cream, filling his diaper with silverware at the Hoop De Doo Revue (sorry…. I had to slip that in there) and hundreds of hours playing in the pool, David has made our lives both richer and fuller.

Teacups!!

I don’t think David would mind me telling you that he has had to struggle with some health issues that made life a bit more challenging for him. But, David accepted those challenges full on and never made any excuses. However, bumpy roads lead to beautiful places. David is a resilient and durable soul who doesn’t wait for the world to come to him. Let’s be fair…engineering at Purdue isn’t a cakewalk, by any stretch of the imagination. While I hear they have a great basketball team (Boiler Up!), engineering is always the focus in West Lafayette. I am so proud of the young man he has become.

Happy birthday David. I am blessed to have you as my nephew and thankful for your light that shines upon all of us. You have so much to look forward to in the coming years.

The world is waiting for you. Enjoy the ride.
